Join us in helping facilitate a journey to freedom and self-sufficiency for Somali and East African refugees who have endured tremendous hardship and sacrificed everything for an opportunity to work and live without persecution.
Join the Project Refuge team. A few hours a month is a valuable contribution! We welcome your additional suggestions and creative ideas:
- Organize/sponsor a fundraiser at your company, organization or with clubs and friends
- Donate professional skills to clients: ESL instructors, computer training, dental work, doctors, resume assistance, etc
- Coach clients on daily tasks, such as cooking, cleaning, running errands
- Provide job hiring opportunities for clients
- Sponsor a client for 3 months, donate cash in any amount (every dollar helps!)
- Request funds from your Rotary Club's appropriate Avenue of Service committee
Project Refuge will provide training as necessary for various volunteer positions.

Somali Family Service of San Diego is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and donations are fully tax deductible as allowed by CA state law.
Upon completion of their final hearing, refugees who have been granted legal asylum are released that evening or the next -- at night, without notification to anyone. They are taken to the San Ysidro trolley station or the Federal Building downtown and dropped off, alone, in the dark of night. Project Refuge is making arrangements to meet the asylees, give them a warm welcome and introduce them to the supportive services that can help them make a successful transition to our community.
